Tom Aspinall Reveals Injury Hindered Training Camp Before Winning UFC Title

Short-Notice Showdown

Tom Aspinall, the British UFC fighter, has opened up about his recent title fight against Sergei Pavlovich, admitting that he had virtually no training camp due to a horror injury. The original headline event for UFC 295 in New York was set to feature Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic, but an injury to Jones forced the fight to be postponed. Aspinall and Pavlovich agreed to step in for an interim title bout at Madison Square Garden with just two weeks' notice.

Underprepared Victory

In a surprising turn of events, Aspinall managed to secure a knockout victory in the first round, despite having little time to prepare for the fight. He revealed that he had injured his back in the first week after finding out about the match and was unable to train properly as a result. Aspinall only had five days of training camp before the fight. He also faced additional challenges, such as visa issues and uncertainty about whether he would even be able to attend the event. Despite these obstacles, Aspinall emerged triumphant.

Ambitious Goals

Following his victory, Aspinall has set his sights on a future fight with legendary American fighter Jon Jones. Jones recently underwent surgery for a pectoral injury, and Aspinall sees this as an opportunity to challenge himself against one of the greatest fighters in the sport. Aspinall expressed his desire to fight Jones before their respective careers come to an end and urged for the opportunity to prove himself in what he considers to be a dream fight.
