Richard Dunwoody: From Champion Jockey to Renowned Photographer

Richard Dunwoody: From Champion Jockey to Renowned Photographer

From the Racecourse to the Camera

Richard Dunwoody, once hailed as the "king of the weighing room," has traded in his jockey hat for a camera lens. The former champion jockey, who won the Grand National twice and was a household name in the racing world, now lives a completely different life behind the camera.

A New Passion

Dunwoody's retirement from racing has allowed him to pursue his passion for photography. Alongside his partner Olivia, he founded Dunwoody Web Design and Photography, based in Madrid. The couple's work has taken them all over the world, capturing unique moments and breathtaking landscapes.

An Eye for the Extraordinary

Dunwoody's lens has captured a plethora of captivating subjects, from a young boy in Guatemala holding the reins of a blind pony to the Gaucho Derby in Patagonia, known as one of the toughest equine challenges in history. His portfolio also includes snapshots of everyday life, such as a farmhouse cafe in Northumberland.

A Lifelong Passion

Photography has been a passion of Dunwoody's since his youth, even during his racing career. After retiring from racing in 1999, he began to travel more and developed a strong interest in capturing better images. It wasn't until 2011, after completing a photography course in Paris, that he fully immersed himself in his second career.

Capturing the Unforgettable

Dunwoody's diverse photography career has led to collaborations with renowned figures like Channel 4's "Supervet," Noel Fitzpatrick. He has even captured detailed photos of animals during surgical procedures. Through his lens, he continues to capture the beauty and essence of the world around him.

A New Chapter

While Dunwoody may have left the racecourse behind, he doesn't miss the adrenaline of racing. He finds solace in photographing horses rather than riding them. His unique blend of talent as both a jockey and a photographer sets him apart as a true trailblazer in the world of sports and art.
