Eddie Howe's Side Seeks Reinforcements Amid Injury Crisis
Newcastle United is reportedly preparing to make a loan bid for Paris Saint-Germain forward Hugo Ekitike in the January transfer window. The move comes as the club faces an injury crisis and is in need of reinforcements. Injuries to Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson have left the team short up front, which was evident in their recent 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth. However, financial restrictions may limit the club's ability to make big-money signings, leading them to consider a loan deal.
Loan Deal with Option to Buy
According to reports, Newcastle would be open to a loan deal with an option to buy Ekitike in the summer. The 21-year-old forward has seen limited playing time this season, with just eight minutes of action and no appearances since mid-August. It remains to be seen if Ekitike would be willing to make the move to Newcastle, as he previously turned down an opportunity to join the club.
Previous Rejection and PSG Experience
In January 2022, Ekitike rejected a £33 million move to Newcastle after waiting for a meeting with PSG advisor Luis Campos. The French forward expressed his admiration for Campos and his desire to play for PSG. Ekitike eventually joined PSG on loan in the summer of 2022, and the deal was made permanent ahead of this season for around £30 million.
Ekitike has made 33 appearances for the French champions, scoring four goals and providing four assists. His lack of playing time this season and PSG's willingness to entertain a loan deal may make a move to Newcastle a possibility.
