Lewis Hamilton's 2013 Mercedes Becomes Most Expensive Modern Formula One Car

Lewis Hamiltons 2013 Mercedes Becomes Most Expensive Modern Formula One Car

Lewis Hamilton's old Mercedes has made history by becoming the most expensive modern-day Formula One car ever sold. The 2013 speedster was auctioned off for a whopping £15 million at an RM Sotheby's auction in Las Vegas over the weekend.

A Record-Breaking Sale

Hamilton's 2013 Mercedes has set a new record as the most expensive modern F1 car in history. With a price tag of £15 million, it surpasses the previous record held by Michael Schumacher's 2003 Ferrari F2003.

A Winning Legacy

Although Hamilton didn't clinch the F1 championship in this car, he did make history by winning the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix in it. This victory marked the first time a British driver had won in a Mercedes since Stirling Moss's triumph in 1955.

Not Quite the Priciest

While Hamilton's Mercedes may be the most expensive modern F1 car, it falls short in comparison to the priciest F1 car of all time. The 1954 Mercedes W196R, driven by Juan Manuel Fangio, holds that distinction, having been sold for a staggering £19.6 million in 2013.

A Speed Demon

This 2013 Mercedes, which served as Hamilton's main car for the season, is an impressive machine. It boasts a V8 engine and can reach speeds of up to 234 mph. With a blistering 0-60 mph time of just 3.6 seconds, it's clear why this car holds such value.

A Collector's Item

What makes Hamilton's Mercedes even more special is that it is the only one ever sold outside of Mercedes. This adds to its exclusivity and makes it a true treasure for any Formula One enthusiast.

Hamilton's Vegas Adventure

The auction of Hamilton's car coincided with the first-ever Grand Prix in Las Vegas, and the British driver was in attendance. He expressed his excitement about the race and the track, debunking any negative perceptions by stating that the event proved them wrong.
