Agent Confirms Lack of Progress in Contract Extension
Arsenal midfielder Jorginho's future with the club remains uncertain as contract talks have hit a standstill, according to his agent. The 31-year-old Italy international signed an 18-month deal with the Gunners in January but is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
Jorginho's Desire to Stay at Arsenal
Despite the lack of progress in contract negotiations, Jorginho is reportedly keen to extend his stay at Arsenal. Agent Joao Santos stated that the priority for the midfielder is to remain with the Gunners, although discussions will not resume until after February.
Limited Playing Time and Recent Criticism
Jorginho has started only four of Arsenal's 12 Premier League games this season. Signed as cover for Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey, he has found himself on the sidelines since the arrival of Declan Rice. The midfielder also faced criticism for giving away the ball in the North London derby against Tottenham, leading to a second-half equalizer in their 2-2 draw at the Emirates.
Despite these challenges, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed support for Jorginho, emphasizing that players are allowed to make errors and highlighting the midfielder's willingness to help the team.
