Manchester United Target Four Alternatives to Ivan Toney

Manchester United Target Four Alternatives to Ivan Toney

Manchester United have reportedly identified a four-man shortlist of potential alternatives to Brentford striker Ivan Toney. Despite splashing out £72 million on promising ace Rasmus Hojlund in the summer, United are said to be considering additional options to bolster their attacking line-up.

Brentford's Price Tag Likely to Rule Out Move for Toney

While United have been linked with Brentford star Ivan Toney in the past, the Bees' hefty price tag for their star striker is expected to put them out of United's price range. Financial Fair Play regulations, along with Sir Jim Ratcliffe's imminent purchase of a 25% stake in the club, are also factors to be considered.

Struggles for Goals Prompt United to Look Elsewhere

Erik ten Hag's side has had a disastrous start to the season, and with United's attack struggling for goals, they are looking to provide further support to Hojlund up top. Marcus Rashford, who scored 30 goals last season, has managed just one so far this term. Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Martial, and Mason Mount are also yet to find the back of the net in the league this season.

Potential Options on United's Wishlist

According to reports, Porto veteran Mehdi Taremi is among the options on United's wishlist. The 31-year-old is in the final year of his contract in Portugal, making a cut-price deal a possibility. Monaco captain Wissam Ben Yedder, 33, and Flamengo's former wonderkid Gabriel Barbosa, 27, who previously played for Inter Milan, are also claimed to be on United's list. The final name on United's shortlist is Brazilian starlet Marcos Leonardo, who has attracted interest from Newcastle and has impressed for Brazil's Under-20s.
