Manchester United Face Mammoth Price Tag in Pursuit of Giorgio Scalvini

Manchester United Face Mammoth Price Tag in Pursuit of Giorgio Scalvini

Italian Youngster Valued at £51 Million

Manchester United may have to dig deep into their pockets if they want to secure the services of Giorgio Scalvini. The 20-year-old centre-back, who has already earned seven caps for the Italian national team, is considered a key player in Atalanta's defense. Reports suggest that Atalanta will demand a hefty £51 million fee for Scalvini's transfer to United during the January transfer window.

Atalanta in a Strong Position to Retain Scalvini

Atalanta holds a strong position in negotiations, as Scalvini is under contract with the club until 2028. However, the right offer could tempt Atalanta to part ways with the talented defender. It's worth noting that United has already conducted business with Atalanta this season, paying £72 million for Rasmus Hojlund, who has had mixed success at Old Trafford so far.

United's Defensive Reinforcement Plans

Manchester United is keen to strengthen their defense in the upcoming transfer window. While Raphael Varane has been linked with a move to the Saudi League, both Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr are reportedly interested in signing the World Cup-winning defender. Varane has slipped down the pecking order at United, with Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans emerging as the preferred central defensive pairing. Victor Lindelof has also moved ahead of Varane, earning a contract extension due to his impressive performances this season.

Alternative Option: Jean-Clair Todibo

If the pursuit of Scalvini proves too costly or difficult, Manchester United may turn their attention to Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo. While Tottenham Hotspur was initially interested in Todibo, they have now shifted their focus to Radu Dragusin. United may face competition from Chelsea for Todibo, but the ownership of Nice by Sir Jim Ratcliffe could potentially facilitate a deal.
