Frankie Dettori Expresses Concern Over Breeders Cup Ride: I Cant Be Too Confident

Frankie Dettori's Biggest Breeders' Cup Challenge

Famous jockey Frankie Dettori has raised the alarm about his upcoming Breeders' Cup ride, admitting that he can't be too confident. Dettori, who is more recognizable in the UK than in the States, spoke about his Champion Stakes winner King Of Steel, who will be competing in the Turf race on Saturday night in California.

Can King Of Steel Dominate in the States?

King Of Steel, a three-year-old colt owned by Kia Joorabchian's Amo Racing, impressed at Ascot just two weeks ago, giving Dettori a dream send-off. However, Dettori is concerned about the toll the race may have taken on the colt, who had a tough battle to secure the £740,000 first-place prize. Despite the uncertainty, Dettori trusts trainer Roger Varian's confidence in bringing King Of Steel to the States.

Tough Competition and the Need for Luck

Dettori acknowledges that King Of Steel will face stiff competition, including Mostahdaf and the Derby winner. With a tight track to race around, Dettori believes that luck will play a crucial role in King Of Steel's performance. Currently, the colt is the third favorite at 6-1 odds, with Auguste Rodin leading the market at 11-4 and Mostahdaf close behind at 3-1.

Optimism for Inspiral in the Filly and Mare Turf

Dettori expressed more confidence in his prospects with Inspiral, whom he will ride for John Gosden in the Filly and Mare Turf race. He believes that the step up to a mile and a quarter will suit Inspiral, especially given the track conditions. If the filly is at her best, Dettori believes she will be a formidable competitor.

Rocky Start for Dettori in the US

Dettori's time in the US began on a rough note, as he received a three-day ban for careless riding at Santa Anita, the site of the Breeders' Cup, last weekend. Despite this setback, Dettori remains focused on his racing and has been busy riding for various trainers. Off the track, he has been house-hunting with his wife Catherine and enjoying the anonymity that comes with being relatively unknown in the US.

A New Home and New Connections

Dettori has been in the US for a week and is already loving it. He and his wife are searching for a place to live ahead of their move in December. Dettori is also taking the opportunity to make connections with new trainers, and he has been riding for anyone and everyone in recent days. He finds the experience of meeting new people and introducing himself a bit strange, but he enjoys the freedom of going out without being recognized. In fact, Dettori had a humorous encounter at a bar where no one recognized him, making him feel a bit silly for expecting autograph requests.
