Struggles at Arsenal
France boss Didier Deschamps has taken a cheeky dig at Arsenal while discussing an issue with defender William Saliba. Saliba, who arrived at the Gunners in 2019, has finally become a key player under Mikel Arteta after initially struggling to secure a regular starting spot.
Impressive Performances
Saliba's displays have helped Arsenal in their title challenge and he has also been rewarded on the international stage, earning ten caps for France so far. However, he is still struggling to become a regular in the starting XI for his country.
Competition at Arsenal vs. France
Deschamps explained that Saliba does not face the same level of competition for a place at Arsenal as he does for France. The defender is not in the same psychological situation with his club, where he doesn't have to question whether he'll play on the weekend. Deschamps believes Saliba has everything he needs to take the next step in his career.
Battling for a Start
Saliba will be competing with a number of talented defenders for a spot in France's starting lineup, including Dayot Upamecano, Jules Kounde, Jean Clair-Todibo, Benjamin Pavard, and Ibrahima Konate when they face Gibraltar on Saturday.
