Deal in Progress
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the British billionaire, is finalizing a deal to purchase a 25% stake in Manchester United from the Glazers for £1.3 billion.
Patience Required
However, Ratcliffe will have to wait until mid-January for the takeover to be completed, as there is a six to eight week waiting period for the deal to receive clearance from the Premier League.
Investment Plans
Ratcliffe's investment will provide the Glazers with £650 million from the sale of their Class B shares, while the remaining funds will go to various minority shareholders. Ratcliffe also intends to invest £250 million in the club's infrastructure.
Changes Ahead
Despite not officially taking control until the new year, Ratcliffe has already begun making changes at Manchester United. Chief executive Richard Arnold has been sacked, and potential replacements include ex-Juventus CEO Jean-Claude Blanc and Crystal Palace director Dougie Freedman. Additionally, British cycling mastermind Sir Dave Brailsford is expected to assist with sporting operations.
