Former Top Jockey Finds New Calling as Uber Driver

From the Racetrack to the Road

A former top jockey who amassed £22 million in winnings has made a surprising career change - he's now an Uber driver. Noel Callow, a 48-year-old Australian with 1,562 career wins, decided to take up driving after being banned from racing by stewards. Despite his success in the saddle, Callow has found joy behind the wheel as an Uber driver.

Why Uber?

Callow, affectionately known as 'The King', explained his decision to become an Uber driver, saying, "Everyone's got to make a dollar and I like being busy, so why not drive for Uber? I was out of work for three months and thought, why not give it a try? I didn't know if I would like it, but I love it. You meet some interesting people, and I really enjoy doing it."

From Group 1 Wins to Uber Rides

Callow achieved great success as a jockey, winning five Group 1 races and finding success in countries like Singapore, Macau, and Mauritius. However, he was without a ride in the recent Melbourne Cup, which was won by jockey Mark Zahra. Despite this setback, Callow remains positive and busy as an Uber driver, jokingly saying, "I'm Brad Pitt in Asia and I'm armpit in Australia."

Staying Busy on and off the Racetrack

Although Callow didn't participate in the prestigious Melbourne Cup, he continues to keep himself occupied. In fact, he once picked up a fare and drove a passenger from the Gold Coast to Brisbane before winning a race at Doomben. While his career as an Uber driver may not have been his initial plan, Callow has embraced his new calling and is enjoying every moment of it.
