Bare-chested Hull City captain caught in chaotic pub punch-up that stopped traffic

Holy crap. The footage that landed in my inbox this morning made my coffee break a whole lot more interesting. There's nothing quite like seeing a Championship footballer with his shirt off in the middle of a street brawl to make you question your career choices.

I've spent the last hour watching and rewatching what appears to be Hull City's captain Lewie Coyle, stripped to the waist and being dragged away from what looks like absolute carnage outside teh Empress pub in Hull city centre. And it wasn't just any random Tuesday - this was yesterday evening around 8pm, when most footballers should probably be at home with their feet up watching Netflix.

Brothers, Boxers, and Bloody Faces

What makes this particularly wild is that Lewie wasn't alone. His younger brother Rocco - also a Hull City player at just 18 - was there playing peacemaker, physically pushing his topless big bro across the road while traffic came to a standstill. Talk about family loyalty.

But wait, it gets better.

Their other brother (because apparently one Coyle wasn't enough drama) who happens to be an ex-professional boxer was supposedly there too. Nothing says "family night out" quite like a multi-person street fight that blocks traffic in both directions.

What the hell happened?

According to someone who caught the whole thing on video while sitting on a bus (imagine just trying to get home and suddenly THAT happens outside your window), the fight spilled right into the middle of Alfred Gelder Street. The source - who understandably wants to remain anonymous because who needs that kind of trouble - told me they initially had no idea it was the Hull City captain.

"I was just on my way home when I saw lots of people fighting," they said. "The bus literally couldn't move because these guys were going at it right in the middle of the road."

The footage shows Rocco physically guiding his shirtless brother across the street, hands planted firmly on his chest as Lewie backs away. Two women can be seen walking alongside them, probably wondering how their bank holiday drinks turned into a scene from Fight Club.

Blood, Booze, and Bank Holiday Regrets

When the camera pans back to the original fight scene, there's a man with blood smeared across his face surrounded by others. Not exactly the image Hull City's PR team was hoping for after the long weekend.

Sources suggest this whole mess erupted after some heated exchange at the Empress pub spilled outside. Because nothing says "professional athlete" like a bank holiday pub brawl, right?

The Morning After

Hull City clearly woke up to a PR nightmare. They've acknowledged they've seen the video (hard to miss when it's everywhere) and released one of those carefully worded statements that basically says "we're dealing with it but don't ask us anything else right now."

Their exact words: "Hull City is aware of a video currently circulating on social media and has launched an investigation into the matter. The club will refrain from making further comment until the investigation has been concluded."

BBC Humberside Sport shared this statement, helpfully pointing out that both brothers play for the club. You know, in case anyone missed that crucial detail while watching the team captain half-naked in the street.

I reached out to a contact at the club this morning who just texted back: "No comment but FML." Poor guy's probably been in crisis meetings since dawn.

Back in 2019, I covered a similar incident with another Championship player, and it cost him about £15K in fines and a three-match ban. Something tells me the Coyle brothers might be looking at something similar... if not worse.

From Captain to Cautionary Tale

Lewie Coyle, 29, currently captains Hull City and plays as a right-back. His younger brother Rocco, 18, is also at the club. I'd imagine their next team meeting might be just a tad awkward.

Humberside Police haven't responded to requests for comment yet, but I'll update this when (or if) they do.

Listen. We've all had nights that got out of hand. But most of us manage to keep our shirts on and stay out of traffic while doing it.
