MK Dons Eyeing Loan Move for Aston Villa's Filip Marschall
Aston Villa's backup goalkeeper, Filip Marschall, is attracting interest from League Two club MK Dons. The 20-year-old shot-stopper is seen as a potential loan target for MK Dons manager Mike Williamson, who previously played in the Premier League for Newcastle United. With Villa in need of Marschall due to Robin Olsen's absence, Williamson is keeping a close eye on the situation, hoping to secure a reunion with the talented goalkeeper in January.
Williamson Familiar with Marschall's Abilities
Mike Williamson, who has also had stints at Watford and Wolves, is no stranger to Filip Marschall's talents. The England U19 international previously enjoyed two loan spells under Williamson's management at non-league Gateshead. During the 2021/22 campaign, Marschall made 19 appearances for Gateshead, helping them win the National League North title. His impressive performances earned him a new contract with Aston Villa.
Potential Reunion at MK Dons
Marschall returned to Gateshead on loan last January, making 20 appearances and aiding the team in securing a 14th-place finish in the National League. However, this season, the 20-year-old remained at Villa Park and recently made his senior debut for the club. In a Europa Conference League match against Zrinjski Mostar, Marschall showcased his skills. Meanwhile, Mike Williamson made the move to MK Dons as manager during the summer and hopes to reunite with Marschall to bolster his team's promotion push from League Two. Currently, MK Dons are placed sixth in the league, just seven points behind the top three, after 23 games.
