Newcastle legend Alan Shearer believes his former club should sign Ivan Toney in January.
Alan Shearer, the legendary Newcastle player, has voiced his opinion on the potential transfer of Ivan Toney to the club. Toney, who currently plays for Brentford, has not been able to play this season due to an eight-month ban for betting breaches. However, he will be eligible to return to the pitch on January 17. With his impressive performance of scoring 20 Premier League goals last season, Toney has attracted attention from various clubs, including Newcastle.
Manager Thomas Frank of Brentford has acknowledged that the club is open to selling Toney if the right price is offered. Reports suggest that the striker could demand a hefty fee of £80 million. Despite the price tag, Shearer believes that Newcastle should make a move for Toney, as the club is currently performing well in four competitions and could benefit from another strong option in the striker position.
Shearer expressed his thoughts on The Rest is Football podcast, stating, "I think he’s a really good player and I think he’s a really good option. Newcastle need to improve in that department, they need another option in there, so I don’t think there will be any shortage of suitors for Toney."
If Toney were to join Newcastle, he would face competition from Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak for a spot in the starting lineup. However, Toney has also been linked with Chelsea, Tottenham, and Arsenal, indicating that a transfer battle could ensue among the three clubs.

As the January transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle will make a move for Toney and secure him as an additional attacking option.
