Lib Dem Leader Refuses to Rule Out Helping Labour into Power

Sir Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, has set out his election stall during his four-day conference in Bournemouth, raising increasing speculation that he would prop up Sir Keir Starmer in a potential post-election deal. While categorically ruling out a coalition with the Tories, Sir Ed has remained tight-lipped about the possibility of working with Labour if they fail to win a majority.

Sir Ed's "Better Future with Europe" Pledge Receives Huge Applause

During his keynote address, Sir Ed received the loudest applause when he pledged to build a "better future with Europe." However, he avoided mentioning Brexit and has yet to explicitly commit to rejoining the EU despite pressure from within his own party. Instead, he suggested that Labour needed to have a more "ambitious" relationship with Europe.

Speculation Continues as Sir Ed Refuses to Rule Out Aiding Labour

In a series of interviews, Sir Ed failed to dampen speculation that he would be willing to aid Labour in ousting Rishi Sunak. While ruling out any coalitions or dealings with the Conservatives, he stated that he would not speculate on what else could happen. Sir Keir Starmer has also not ruled out working with the Lib Dems if necessary to win No10.

Sir Ed Takes a Jab at Tories and Puts Healthcare at the Heart of His Speech

Taking a swipe at the Conservatives, Sir Keir called for them to be removed from No10. He also apologized for previous comments comparing them to clowns, saying it was unfair to clowns. In his speech, Sir Ed focused on healthcare and announced a pledge that cancer patients would be seen within two months. He shared a personal connection to the issue, having lost both of his parents to cancer as a child.
