UK politician Penny Mordaunt launched a scathing attack on the Scottish National Party (SNP) yesterday, accusing them of failing on education while providing safe spaces for kids to inject heroin. Mordaunt, the Commons leader, criticized the SNP government for widening the attainment gap and overseeing what she called a "wrecked education system".
SNP Backs First Official Drug Consumption Room
Mordaunt's comments come after Glasgow approved the UK's first official drug consumption room in September. The room will allow the use of illegal drugs such as cocaine and heroin, and is supported by the SNP, who argue that it will help prevent overdoses and address the drugs crisis.
War of Words
Mordaunt's criticism was prompted by SNP MP Deidre Brock's mockery of her speech at the Tory conference, in which Mordaunt repeatedly called on Brits to "stand up and fight". Brock accused Tory ministers, including Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, of wanting a fight with the unemployed. Mordaunt fired back, stating that the SNP is one of the parties she is "standing up and fighting against". She also called on Brock to be more self-reflective and questioned the actions of the SNP, including their leader smirking during the national anthem and their activists labeling BBC reporters as "traitors".
