Jeremy Hunt Faces Backlash for Claiming Parking Fees on Taxpayers Expense

Minted Chancellor Jeremy Hunt's Controversial Parking Claims

Multi-millionaire Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has come under fire for claiming back minimal parking fees from the taxpayer. Hunt, who is one of the richest members of the Cabinet, submitted reimbursement requests for charges as low as £1.10 just days after assuming his post in October 2022.

Continued Penny-Pinching Despite Wealth

Hunt's parking claims did not stop there. In November, he sought reimbursement for £2.80, followed by a similar claim in December. This behavior has raised eyebrows, especially since Hunt is reportedly worth £14 million, owns a property business with his wife, and earns approximately £150,000 annually as Chancellor.

Out of Touch with Constituents

Hunt's constituents in Godalming, Surrey, have accused him of being out of touch. Despite the availability of free parking in the area and on-road parking, Hunt chose to claim these minimal fees from the taxpayer.

Labour Criticizes Hunt's Actions

The Labour party wasted no time in criticizing Hunt's parking claims. They highlighted the stark contrast between his actions and the cost-of-living crisis experienced by families, as well as the significant tax burden they bear. A spokesperson for Labour quipped, "You have to feel for the Chancellor. What if that 60p parking charge was the difference between owning seven luxury flats instead of just his sixth?"

Treasury Source Hits Back

A source from the Treasury defended Hunt, accusing the Labour party of engaging in short-term politicking and lacking genuine concern for the welfare of the people. The source dismissed their criticism as mere political posturing.
