The leader of the Labour Party, Sir Keir Starmer, has been told that the price of a new Brexit deal would be rejoining the European Union’s Single Market.
EU's Former Chief Negotiator Rejects Renegotiation
Michel Barnier, the former chief negotiator for the EU, dismissed Sir Keir's talk of rewriting the terms of the divorce agreement.
According to Barnier, renegotiation is not an option unless the UK makes significant concessions and decides whether to remain in or leave the Single Market.
During an interview on ITV's Peston show, Barnier stated, "I always said during all the negotiations from day one to the last day, there is no room for any kind of unravelling of the single market."

However, he did mention that there was room for amendments to improve certain aspects of the deal, such as veterinary arrangements for animal and vegetable exports.
Trade Agreement Review in 2025
The Trade and Cooperation Agreement signed by Boris Johnson includes a review scheduled for 2025.
This presents an opportunity to make amendments to certain elements of the deal.
Sir Keir Starmer's Call for a Better Brexit Deal
Sir Keir has previously expressed the need for a "better Brexit deal" to ensure the success of the UK's departure from the EU.

However, the Conservative Party responded by stating that Sir Keir's solution always involves more integration with Europe.
A spokesperson for the Tories said, "Now we see the price of his renegotiation would be copy and pasting from the past and re-joining the single market and customs union."
