David Cameron Makes Shocking Return to Politics After 7-Year Hiatus

Former Prime Minister David Cameron is back as Foreign Secretary

David Cameron, who famously resigned as Prime Minister and MP after the Brexit referendum in 2016, has made a surprising return to politics. He has been appointed as the new Foreign Secretary, marking an unexpected comeback for a politician many believed to be a thing of the past.

A Comeback from Retirement

After leaving office, Cameron seemed to have disappeared from the public eye, with the exception of negative headlines about his involvement with financier Lex Greensill. However, in 2018, he confided in friends that he was "bored s***less" and wanted to contribute more.

Years in the Making

Speculation grew that Cameron could become Foreign Secretary, an opportunity that has now been seized by Rishi Sunak. This move allows Cameron to draw on his extensive experience, which was often overshadowed by his role in the Brexit referendum.

A Political Journey

Cameron's political career began in the 1990s when he served as a government adviser under Prime Minister John Major. He went on to become the leader of the Conservative Party in 2005 and formed a coalition government with the Liberal Democrats in 2010.

During his time as Prime Minister, Cameron implemented spending cuts to reduce the country's deficit, ordered military action in Libya, and introduced progressive policies such as legalizing gay marriage. His tenure was also marked by two referendums on voting reform and Scottish independence.

The Brexit Gamble

Under pressure from Nigel Farage's UK Independence Party (UKIP), Cameron promised to hold a referendum on the UK's membership in the European Union if he won the 2015 election. Despite campaigning to remain in the EU, the majority of voters chose to leave, leading Cameron to step down as Prime Minister.

A New Chapter

David Cameron bid farewell to 10 Downing Street alongside his wife Samantha and their three children. Now, after seven years, he is back in the political arena, taking up the role of Foreign Secretary. It remains to be seen what impact his return will have on the ever-changing landscape of British politics.
