YouTube to Remove Premium Lite Option, Leaving Users with Two Choices

YouTube to Remove Premium Lite Option, Leaving Users with Two Choices

Streaming without Ads Will Now Cost More

YouTube users in selected countries have been hit with a major change that will dig deeper into their pockets if they want to avoid annoying adverts. Previously, for just £6, users could enjoy an ad-free experience with a Premium Lite account. However, YouTube has decided to discontinue this option, leaving users with only two choices moving forward.

Upgrade or Deal with Ads

With the removal of the Premium Lite option, YouTube users will now have to choose between upgrading to the main plan or going back to the non-paid option and dealing with ads. The main plan comes with a price tag of 12.99 euros or £12.99, while the non-paid option means going back to the regular ad-supported content.

Users Frustrated with Unwanted Perks

Many users have expressed their frustration with this decision, stating that they are merely seeking an ad-free YouTube experience without the need for additional perks like offline downloads or background playback. They consider the removal of the affordable Premium Lite option to be an unfair move.

YouTube Promises to Listen to Feedback

YouTube has responded to the backlash, assuring users that they are actively working on different versions of Premium Lite based on feedback. The platform aims to address the users' desire for a simple, ad-free streaming option at an affordable price.

Crackdown on Ad-Blockers

This change in YouTube's premium offerings is happening in conjunction with Google's efforts to crack down on ad-blocking software. Since May, users have been receiving notifications informing them that content will not play if their ad-blocking software is turned on, effectively forcing users to view ads.
