Windows Users Beware: The Free Upgrade from Windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10 or 11 Comes to an End

Windows Users Beware: The Free Upgrade from Windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10 or 11 Comes to an End

Windows users have received a major warning about an upcoming change that could have a significant cost attached. The tech giant Microsoft has closed a "loophole" that previously allowed users to upgrade for free. Up until now, users who were on Windows 7 or 8 could unofficially upgrade to Windows 11 without any charges. However, Microsoft has officially announced that it will no longer offer the free upgrade.

The End of an Era

When Windows 10 was initially launched, Microsoft provided users with an opportunity to upgrade to the new operating system at no cost. This offer, however, officially expired in July 2016. Despite the expiration, some users were able to continue upgrading to Windows 11 without any charges. Unfortunately, this option is no longer available.

A spokesperson for Microsoft stated, "Microsoft's free upgrade offer for Windows 10 / 11 ended on July 29, 2016. The installation path to obtain the Windows 7/8 free upgrade has now been removed as well. However, upgrades from Windows 10 to Windows 11 are still offered for free."

Surprising Turn of Events

Renowned expert Darren Allan shared his thoughts on the situation in an article for TechRadar. He expressed his surprise, stating, "This is something we didn't believe would ever happen, frankly. The free upgrade has remained in place, on the sly, for so long. As Microsoft points out, the offer officially expired over seven years ago, in mid-2016 – yes, seven years."

Allan advises users who have been holding off on the upgrade to act quickly, as time may be running out. He urges them not to miss the opportunity to switch to a newer version of Windows.

Free Xbox Game for Gamers

In a somewhat unrelated development, gamers have just realized that they can now get a £50 Xbox game at no cost. This unexpected discovery has caused quite a stir in the gaming community.
