WhatsApp to Stop Working on Certain Android Devices Next Month

Time is Running Out for Some Android Users

WhatsApp users have been given a stark warning that their beloved messaging app will no longer work on some Android devices starting from October 24. This means that affected users will be unable to send or receive messages using WhatsApp.

No Worries for iPhone Owners

Fortunately, iPhone owners can breathe a sigh of relief as this change only affects certain Android smartphones. So if you're an iPhone user, you can continue enjoying WhatsApp with no disruptions.

Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) is Out of Luck

The reason for this change is that WhatsApp is dropping support for handsets running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). From October 24, users will need to have at least Android 5.0 or above in order to continue using the app.

A Small Number of Users Affected

While this change may cause some inconvenience, it will only impact a small number of users with older smartphones. So if you have a Samsung, Sony, HTC, or LG device, make sure to check the Android version on your phone.

Upgrade to Android 5.0 or Newer

If your Android phone is currently running on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), it's important to update to a newer version of the operating system to ensure that you can still use WhatsApp. Starting from October 24, WhatsApp will only support Android OS version 5.0 and newer.

Check Your Android Version

To check which version of Android your phone is using, simply go to the Settings, click on "About phone," and find the Android version number. If it's 5.0 or above, you're good to go. But if it's Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), you'll need to take action to avoid losing access to WhatsApp.

Security is a Priority

WhatsApp has made this change to ensure the security and performance of its messaging platform. Unsupported software, such as Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), no longer receives critical updates for security bugs. By updating to a newer version of Android, you can protect yourself from potential security threats.

Don't delay - upgrade your Android device to continue using WhatsApp and stay connected with your friends and family!
