Giant Airship to Travel Over 24,000 Miles in 20-Day Journey

A remarkable whale-shaped airship is set to take flight on a non-stop journey around the world. The Solar Airship One, developed in France, is a massive 495ft balloon vessel that will traverse over 25 countries in a 20-day trip set to begin in 2026. This technological marvel is being hailed for its energy efficiency and safety.

Solar-Powered and Zero Carbon Emissions

The Airship One is advertised as 100 percent electric, running on sun and hydrogen power, which means it will produce zero carbon emissions. Its unique design will allow it to soar almost 20,000ft in the air as it travels across Mexico, India, the US, and other nations on its journey.

Impressive Features: Silence and Controlled Landing

One of the most striking features of the Airship One is its near-silent operation. After a decade of research, the helium volume has been minimized to just 50,000m3. The aircraft's structure consists of 15 individually controlled gas envelopes, allowing for better maneuverability in windy conditions. Interestingly, the airship can also land using a rotating platform on a "sheet of water," eliminating the need for heavy machinery.

Astronauts and Pilots on Board

Three pilots have been chosen to embark on the Airship One's journey. This includes Michel Tognini, a former European Space Agency astronaut, who completed two space trips in 1992 and 1999. Accompanying him is Bertrand Piccard, a pioneer in the field, and Dorine Bourneton, the first disabled female aerobatic pilot, who survived a plane crash at the age of 16.
