Warning to iPhone Owners: Three Fraudulent Apps Found on App Store

Cybersecurity Giant Discovers Dangerous Malware

iPhone owners have been issued a warning about three "fraudulent" apps that have been found on the App Store. In a security memo, the apps are described as "malware" – a dangerous type of download. The apps, named GPR Platform, Gaz Active, and InvestPRO, have since been removed from the App Store, but may still be installed on your iPhone.

Apps Share Common Theme: Investment

According to a report by cybersecurity company Kaspersky, the three apps all revolve around investment. Two of the apps are said to be for tracking the current value of cryptocurrency assets, while the third is described as an investment game.

How the Scam Works

When users open the app, it appears to function as a normal app. However, some users may encounter phishing content. Victims are promised a decent income of at least $1000 a month and are encouraged to start investing small amounts, with the promise of quick profits in just a few days. Users are then asked to fill in a long questionnaire, including personal contact information. Scammers then call the victims to steal money by persuading them to invest in dubious financial projects. As expected, the promised payback never materializes and the victim's investment disappears.

App Store Security Measures

The report mentioned that the creators of these apps were able to bypass Apple's protections by making changes to the app after it was uploaded. While it is uncommon to find malware or phishing apps on the App Store, Apple's verification process is generally effective at blocking such threats. However, there are occasions when malware creators manage to slip past the App Store's radar.

How to Delete an App on iPhone

Deleting an app from your iPhone is simple, but it's important to note the difference between deleting and hiding an app. To delete an app, unlock your iPhone and swipe from right to left until you reach the App Library. Once in the App Library, touch and hold the app you want to delete, then select "Delete App" and tap "Delete". This will fully remove the app from your iPhone.

Stay vigilant and always be cautious when downloading apps, especially when they involve financial transactions. If you believe you have downloaded any of these fraudulent apps, follow the steps mentioned above to delete them and protect yourself from potential scams.
