The Hidden Difference in the UK iPhone 15 You Might Only Notice on Holiday

A Small but Significant Variation

When it comes to the iPhone 15, there's a little-known feature missing in the UK compared to its American counterparts. Most of the time, you won't notice any difference, but if you're visiting friends in the US, you might detect a small but significant variation.

mmWave 5G Bands

US models of the iPhone support something called mmWave 5G bands, which are a different type of 5G frequencies that make connection speeds much faster at short distances. This is perfect for built-up urban areas. However, this feature has been exclusive to the US since the iPhone 12 in 2020. Other countries, including the UK, do not have the technology for mmWave 5G, so Apple has decided not to include it in their UK models.

No SIM-card Tray

Another difference between iPhones in the UK and the US is the absence of a SIM-card tray in handsets bought in the US. Instead, Americans have to use eSIM, which eliminates the need for a physical SIM card. In contrast, the rest of the world, including the UK, still has a SIM card tray option along with the added option of eSIM.

So, if you're planning on purchasing an iPhone 15 in the UK, don't fret about missing out on mmWave 5G or the SIM-card tray. These features are exclusive to the US and a select few other countries.
