Sky CEO Dana Strong Assures Customers that Satellite TV is Here to Stay Amid Streaming Boom

No Plans to End Satellite Broadcasting

Sky CEO Dana Strong has addressed concerns about the future of satellite television as streaming continues to gain popularity. She denied previous reports that Sky is planning to discontinue traditional satellite broadcasting any time soon. Speaking at the recent Royal Television Society Cambridge Convention, Strong assured satellite customers that they need not worry about being forced to switch to one of Sky's streaming products.

Sky Glass Performing Well Despite Underwhelming Sales Reports

Despite reports indicating underwhelming sales, Strong expressed her satisfaction with the performance of Sky Glass. She revealed that eight out of ten subscribers opting for Sky's streamed TV products are actually new customers, not individuals who have switched from satellite television. Notably, Sky Q remains the sole satellite TV offering sold by the company today.

Emphasizing Customer Choice

Strong emphasized the company's commitment to customer choice, stating, "We have millions of customers that love their service on the satellite dish with a Q platform. We have no desire to disrupt them, but we want to give customers the choice." She also highlighted the benefits of Sky's new Entertainment OS, which consolidates traditional TV with popular apps like Netflix and Paramount+. According to Strong, this integration allows customers to access all their content in one interface, saving them from the hassle of navigating multiple apps.

Satellite Operator Agreement Extended

It was also confirmed last year that Sky had renewed its agreement with satellite operator SES. The agreement ensures that Sky will continue to carry its services until the end of 2028, providing further reassurance to satellite TV subscribers.
