Perfect Location for Moon Base Found: Permanent Sunlight and Plenty of Resources

An Ideal Environment for Humans

A spot on the moon has been identified as the perfect location for a human base, according to researchers. Situated on the moon's south pole, this area between two craters offers access to abundant water and enjoys permanent sunlight - essential for power supply and habitability.

Determining the Best Spot

Researchers examined five craters - de Gerlache, Henson, Sverdrup, Shackleton, and an unnamed crater - to determine which one would be the most suitable for a human base. Factors such as water availability, sunlight exposure, slope angles, and potential power sources were taken into consideration to make the decision.

Henson Crater: The Chosen Spot

Out of the five craters studied, the Henson crater was declared the best possible location for the first human base. It strikes a balance between proximity to water and access to sunlight for energy. However, researchers believe it would be feasible to expand to other areas in the future, thanks to the direct access provided by the surrounding Sverdrup-Henson craters.

More to Discover

While the data studied thus far has come from remote locations, researchers anticipate that their conclusions may change slightly once they are able to observe the area directly. As Simeon Barber at the Open University in the UK points out, further measurements on-site will provide more accurate information for building a lunar base.
