I’m a Wi-Fi expert… get an instant internet speed boost from my little-known ’30cm rule’

Boost Your Wi-Fi with the '30cm Rule'

Securing a strong Wi-Fi connection can be a nightmare with multiple devices vying for signal. Aman Bhatti, Director of Propositions at Sky Broadband, reveals a simple solution - the '30cm rule'.

Precious Internet Airwaves

Your TV, phone, speakers, and even your smart fridge can all disrupt your Wi-Fi connection when they are switched on. The closer these devices are to the Wi-Fi router, the more signal they will consume.

An Equal Ripple of Internet Signal

Bhatti explains that keeping your hub 30cm or more away from other electronics such as speakers, cordless phone base stations, and TVs will help boost internet speeds across all your devices. This allows the router to push out a consistent ripple of internet signal to all nearby devices. The same rule applies to Wi-Fi boosters and extenders set up around your home.

Extra Hurdles at Christmas Time

The '30cm rule' becomes even more crucial during the holiday season. Large obstructions, such as the Christmas tree and festive decorations like smart lights, can eat up internet signals. Additionally, with more people around the house, there are typically more smartphones competing for internet signal. It's advised to not place your router within 30cm of tall or wide furniture to ensure stronger internet speeds.
