Google unveils new smartphones with temperature-taking capabilities

Introducing Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro

Google has just launched two new smartphones, the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which are set to rival the iPhone. One intriguing feature of the Pixel 8 Pro is the ability to take temperatures.

Pixel 8: Sleek design and vibrant display

The Google Pixel 8, priced at $699, comes in three color options - Hazel, Rose, and Obsidian. It features a 5.2-inch screen with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,040 pixels, providing a pixel density of 428 pixels-per-inch. The display offers a refresh rate of 60-120Hz and a peak brightness of 2,000 nits.

Pixel 8 Pro: Superb display and added features

For those looking for a larger screen and more advanced features, the Google Pixel 8 Pro, starting at $999, is the perfect choice. Available in Bay, Porcelain, and Obsidian colors, the Pro model boasts a 6.7-inch Super Actua display with a resolution of 1,344 x 2,992 pixels, offering a pixel density of 489 pixels-per-inch. Its Smooth Display technology provides refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz and a peak brightness of 2,400 nits. The Pro model also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for added protection.

Battery life and storage options

Both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are equipped with "beyond 24-hour battery life," and can be extended to 72 hours with Extreme Battery Saver mode. The devices can be charged using USB-C, making them compatible with the new iPhone 15 as well. The Pixel 8 comes with 8GB of RAM, while the Pro model offers 12GB as standard. Storage options for both models include 128GB and 256GB variants, with the Pro model also offering 512GB and 1TB options.

Impressive camera capabilities

The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro both feature a 50-megapixel wide camera on the back. The Pixel 8 also includes a 12-megapixel ultra wide camera, while the Pro model offers additional cameras, including a 48-megapixel ultra wide camera and a 48-megapixel telephoto shooter with 5x optical zoom capability. Both models have a 10.5-megapixel selfie camera with a 95-degree ultra wide field of view.

Temperature sensor and AI enhancements

One notable difference between the Pixel 8 and the Pro is the temperature sensor on the Pro model. This allows users to measure the temperature of objects simply by pointing their phone's sensor at them. Google has even submitted an application to the FDA for an app that can be used to take your own temperature. In addition, the new smartphones come with upgraded AI tools, including enhanced Google Assistant features for more natural conversations, improved Face Unlock for app sign-ins, and AI-powered spam call detection and filtering.

Magic Editor and other exciting features

Google has also included an upgraded version of Magic Editor, which allows users to easily edit photos by replacing distracting elements, reframing subjects, and adjusting lighting. Other notable features include the ability to write messages using your voice and the At A Glance feature, which provides important updates on your screen, such as travel updates and event tickets.

With these impressive features and capabilities, the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are sure to be a hit among smartphone enthusiasts.
