Google Shuts Down Popular App, Forcing Users to Switch

App Discontinued in 2024

In a move that's sure to disappoint fans, Google has announced that it will be shutting down its beloved app in late 2024. The tech giant has chosen to focus its efforts on other tools, leaving users with no choice but to find an alternative.

Axed Whiteboarding App

One of the casualties of this decision is the popular whiteboarding app, Jamboard. According to a Workspace post, Google has decided to axe the app, claiming that other providers such as FigJam, Lucidspark, and Miro offer better options for Workspace users.

Collaboration from a Distance

Jamboard was a unique tool that allowed workers to interact in real time from a distance. However, Google has chosen to work with the aforementioned whiteboard providers to integrate their services, Google Meet, Drive, and Calendar, into their existing platforms.

Phased Approach to Shutdown

To streamline the process, Google will be implementing a phased approach to the shutdown of Jamboard. While this decision may be disappointing, it will allow users to transition smoothly to alternative platforms.

Hardware Support Winding Down

In addition to discontinuing the app, Google will also be ending support for its 55-inch device, which was priced at £4,000 ($5,000). The hardware will no longer receive software updates after September 30.

As Google shifts its focus to other tools and platforms, users of the app and device will be forced to seek out alternative options. While change can be challenging, they can take solace in the fact that Google is working with other providers to ensure a seamless transition.
