Apple warns iPhone owners to delete ‘suspicious’ apps for two reasons – and warns of an even more dangerous sign

Apple warns iPhone owners to delete ‘suspicious’ apps for two reasons – and warns of an even more dangerous sign

Deleting apps from iPhone

Apple has issued a safety memo advising iPhone owners when they should delete suspicious apps from their devices. According to the memo, warning signs may include apps that have been installed without the user's knowledge or apps that are requesting unnecessary amounts of personal information. If users notice an app with permissions to access their data that they do not remember installing, Apple recommends deleting the app. To delete an app, users can go to the Home Screen, swipe left until they reach the App Library, find the app, touch and hold on it, and then choose Delete App.

Deleting configuration profiles from iPhone

Apple also warns users to be cautious of suspicious configuration profiles on their iPhones. Configuration profiles are commonly used by schools and businesses to manage or supervise devices. However, they can sometimes access private data or location information. If users find a configuration profile on their iPhone that they do not recognize, Apple advises them to check with their system administrator before deleting it. To check and delete configuration profiles, users can go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management. If there are no profiles, then no configuration profiles are installed. If a profile needs to be deleted, users can select it and tap Delete Profile, then follow the onscreen instructions to remove it. After deleting the profile, users should restart their phone.
