Why Did Chris Jericho Leave WWE?

Why Did Chris Jericho Leave WWE?

An Iconic Career

Chris Jericho, the renowned wrestler and rock musician, has left WWE after a near-20-year run with the promotion. Let's take a closer look at why Jericho decided to part ways with the WWE ring.

A Glittering Career

Chris Jericho, whose real name is Christopher Keith Irvine, began his wrestling journey at the age of 19. He won numerous championships in the 1990s and performed for various organizations around the world. In 1999, he made his debut in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and went on to become the first Undisputed WWF Champion in 2001. Jericho is a six-time world champion in WWE and has held multiple other titles throughout his career.

The Feud with Kevin Owens

Jericho's career in WWE reached new heights during his partnership with Kevin Owens. The two formed a successful tag team, with Owens becoming the Universal Champion and Jericho winning the United States Championship. However, their alliance eventually soured, leading to a feud between the two. This feud culminated in a match at WrestleMania 33, where Jericho lost the title. Following this event, Jericho's appearances with WWE became less frequent.

The Final Straw

The incident that ultimately led to Jericho's departure from WWE occurred in 2017. Jericho accepted a Universal Championship challenge from Goldberg on Owens' behalf, which sparked a feud between the two. After a series of events, including Jericho losing and regaining the title, Owens viciously attacked Jericho, leaving him carried out on a stretcher. This incident solidified Jericho's decision to leave WWE.

Seeking New Opportunities

Although Jericho had been with WWE for nearly two decades, a decision made by Vince McMahon regarding the WrestleMania match card prompted Jericho to explore other options. Vince McMahon placed Jericho and Kevin Owens' match for the United States Championship as the second match on the card. This decision, combined with the events leading up to it, pushed Jericho to seek work elsewhere.

Life Beyond WWE

Since leaving WWE, Jericho has pursued various ventures. He is the lead singer for the metal band Fozzy, with whom he has released multiple albums. Additionally, he competed in season eight of The Masked Singer as "Bride" and has been involved in sports training and charity work. Jericho's net worth is estimated to be around $18 million, thanks to his successful career in wrestling and music.

A Private Life

Outside of the spotlight, Jericho is happily married to Jessica Lockhart. The couple has three children and resides in Odessa, Florida. Lockhart maintains a private life and has a net worth of approximately $1 million.

Despite his departure from WWE, Chris Jericho continues to make waves in the world of wrestling and music, proving that his talent and charisma are truly unmatched.
