Why did Clive Tyldesley leave the 2022 World Cup early?

In a surprising turn of events, Clive Tyldesley left the 2022 World Cup in Qatar earlier than expected. The reason behind his early departure? He discovered that he would not be commentating on a live quarter-final for ITV.

Tyldesley had been ITV's lead commentator for an impressive 22 years, from 1998 to 2020. However, in 2020, he was replaced by Sam Matterface, which marked a significant change in his career.

According to reports from the Mail, Tyldesley made the decision to fly home after being asked to provide commentary only for a highlights show during the quarter-finals. It seems he was looking for a more prominent role in the tournament.
