West Ham Targeting Transfer Move for Chelsea Flop

West Ham Targeting Transfer Move for Chelsea Flop

Reports Suggest Timo Werner Could Make Sensational Return to Premier League

West Ham United is reportedly eyeing a transfer move for Timo Werner, the Chelsea flop who failed to live up to expectations after joining the club in a £53 million deal in 2020. Werner, 27, was highly regarded after a stellar season with RB Leipzig, where he scored 28 goals in 34 Bundesliga games and was considered one of Europe's top strikers. However, his two seasons with Chelsea saw him score only 23 goals in 89 appearances, leading to a loss of confidence in front of goal.

Fulham and Crystal Palace Also Interested in Loan Deal

According to 90min, Fulham and Crystal Palace are leading the chase for Werner and are both willing to take him on loan. The German striker has been offered a lifeline by these Premier League rivals as he looks to revive his career. However, West Ham is another possible destination for Werner, as they can offer him playing time in their pursuit of success in the Europa League. With forward Michail Antonio dropped and Jarrod Bowen playing in an unfamiliar center-forward role, the Hammers could benefit from Werner's inclusion as a rotation option.

Leipzig Open to Parting Ways with Werner

Leipzig's sporting director, Rouven Schroder, confirmed that the club would be open to letting Werner go, acknowledging his unhappiness at being a bench player. He stated, "Timo Werner is a part of a team that has to face competition. He's going through a difficult phase, we support him. It's not always all sunshine and roses." Schroder also indicated that if Werner expresses a desire to pursue other opportunities, the club will deal with it accordingly.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham, Fulham, or Crystal Palace will be able to secure Timo Werner's services in the January transfer window. However, it is clear that the German striker is eager for a fresh start and a chance to prove himself once again in the Premier League.
