VAR Issues Force Serie A Referee to Confirm Goal via Mobile Phone

VAR Issues Force Serie A Referee to Confirm Goal via Mobile Phone

A Serie A match between Frosinone and Monza was marred by communication issues with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), leading to an unusual interruption in play. Referee Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi briefly halted the game shortly after the hour mark for unknown reasons, allowing players to rehydrate. It was later revealed that the interruption was due to VAR-related technical problems.

Mobile Confirmation

In an unprecedented move, the fourth official received a phone call from VAR officials and confirmed Monza's second goal of the match. The on-field officials were unable to communicate with the VAR team, forcing them to rely on a mobile phone to make the decision. The use of slow-motion replay was also hindered due to the technical issues.

Stadium Announcement

The technical problems continued into the second half, prompting the stadium announcer to inform the fans that the match was being played without any VAR. However, the issue was eventually resolved, and the announcer announced that the technology was once again back in play.

Match Result and Relegation Concerns

Despite the VAR drama, Monza emerged as 3-2 winners at the Stadio Benito Stirpe. Goals from Dany Mota, Valentin Carboni, and an own goal by Matias Soule secured the victory for the Biancorossi. The defeat further increased Frosinone's relegation fears, as they are now only five points clear of the drop zone.
