UFC 296: Leon Edwards Dominates Colby Covington to Retain Welterweight Title and Settle the Score

Leon Edwards put on a spectacular performance to defend his welterweight title against Colby Covington in a highly anticipated rematch.

Britain's own UFC champion took to the octagon in Las Vegas for UFC 296, determined to silence Covington's pre-fight trash talk once and for all.

The Fight for Revenge

The tension between Edwards and Covington was palpable, with Covington repeatedly taunting Edwards about his late father, who tragically lost his life when Edwards was just 13 years old.

Edwards had a point to prove and he did just that with a dominant decision victory.

Rocky's Promise

Before the fight, Edwards made a strong statement during the pre-fight face-off, telling UFC commentator Joe Rogan: "That man is as good as dead tomorrow. Make sure you keep everything you said about my dad. Tomorrow, we can settle it."

A Display of Skill

Edwards controlled the center of the octagon from the start, using feints to his advantage.

Despite facing chants of "USA, USA, USA," Edwards remained focused on his offense.

Covington was cautious and reluctant to enter the pocket, likely due to Edwards' impressive counter-striking abilities.

Edwards landed a powerful right hand that momentarily stunned Covington, responding to the derogatory chants with a show of strength.

A Battle of Wills

In the second round, Covington hesitated to engage, but managed to land a solid straight left. However, it was Edwards' counter left that proved to be the most significant strike of the round.

In the third round, Covington attempted a takedown, but Edwards skillfully defended against it.

Edwards capitalized on every opportunity to counter when Covington left himself vulnerable.

Although Covington briefly managed to take Edwards to the ground, Edwards quickly regained control and even returned the favor by grounding Covington.

Leon Edwards emerged victorious, proving himself as a force to be reckoned with in the welterweight division.
