The Future of Match of the Day Secured with Gary Lineker's Mega New Pay Deal

The Future of Match of the Day Secured with Gary Linekers Mega New Pay Deal

New TV Deal Secured

Match of the Day, the beloved show that brings Premier League highlights to fans, will continue to air after striking a new four-year agreement with BBC Sport. The deal, which runs until 2029, grants MOTD the rights to show highlights of all 380 matches each season.

Gary Lineker Set for Mega Deal

Host Gary Lineker, whose contract expires in 2025, is expected to sign a lucrative new deal with BBC bosses. Despite taking a pay cut from £1.75 million in 2020, Lineker is reportedly set to extend his contract for £1.35 million per year. This will make him the BBC's highest-paid presenter.

Jermaine Jenas' Hopes Dashed

Lineker's new deal is likely to disappoint Jermaine Jenas, who had hopes of taking over as the main presenter of Match of the Day. With Lineker's contract extension, Jenas will have to wait for another opportunity to step into the coveted role.

Winners and Losers in Live TV Match Packages

TNT Sports and Sky Sports have emerged as the winners in the live TV match packages. Amazon Prime, however, will no longer broadcast matches from the 2025/26 season after failing to secure any of the available deals.

Package Details

TNT Sports, formerly known as BT Sport, won package A, which includes 52 live games throughout the season. They will retain the 12.30pm Saturday matches and have full coverage of two midweek match rounds.

Sky Sports, on the other hand, has been awarded packages B, C, D, and E, covering 215 games per term. The majority of these matches will be played on weekends, with additional matches on Fridays, Mondays, and three midweek rounds. Sky Sports has also been granted the rights to broadcast all 10 final day matches simultaneously for the first time.

Record Revenue

The new agreements are set to generate a staggering £6.7 billion in revenue. Richard Masters, Premier League Chief Executive, expressed his delight at the new deals and praised the partners for their world-class coverage and programming.

Masters also highlighted the Premier League's success in recent seasons, with record audiences and attendances. He credited the strength of the league, its clubs, players, and managers, as well as the passionate supporters who create an unrivaled atmosphere each week.
