Sunderland Approaches Kim Hellberg for Manager Position

Sunderland Approaches Kim Hellberg for Manager Position

Sunderland Football Club is reportedly in talks with Kim Hellberg as they search for a new manager. This comes as a surprise after the recent dismissal of Tony Mowbray, despite the club being just three points behind the play-off places. Hellberg, a highly-rated young coach, has held discussions with owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, according to The Times.

One Win in Five Games

Sunderland's decision to part ways with Tony Mowbray comes after a string of disappointing results. The team has only managed to secure one victory in their last five games, which may have contributed to the management change.

Hellberg's Impressive Track Record

Kim Hellberg, 35, recently led IFK Varnamo to a fifth-place finish in the Swedish top-flight. After the conclusion of their season, Hellberg chose to resign in search of a new challenge. He has also been linked to the vacant Hammarby job, following Marti Cifuentes' departure to QPR.

Rising Through the Ranks

Hellberg's coaching career has been steadily progressing. He began by winning the fifth tier with Kimstad Golf, then moved on to Kuddby IF, where he achieved two promotions in three years. His success led him to the Swedish equivalent of the Championship and Premier League.

Other Contenders

In addition to Hellberg, Sunderland is also considering Reims manager Will Still and Nice assistant Julien Sable for the managerial position. The club is exploring various options as they aim to find the right leader to guide them to success.
