Former Host Willie Carson Urges BBC to Bring Back the 'Axed' Show
Sporting legend Willie Carson, former host of A Question of Sport, has expressed his disappointment with the BBC's decision to overhaul the long-running show. In a recent interview, Carson called for the show to be brought back in its original format, stating that it would help the ailing program regain its former glory.
Carson, who was a panelist on the show in 1982 and 1983, reminisced about the millions of viewers who tuned in each week. However, since the changes were made in 2020, which included the replacement of host Sue Barker with comic Paddy McGuinness and the inclusion of non-sports stars on the panels, viewing figures have plummeted.
Reviving the Show by Scrapping the Changes
Willie Carson firmly believes that A Question of Sport could be revived if the recent changes were reversed. He argued that the show had worked successfully for over 50 years, so there was no need to try and fix something that wasn't broken.
"If they brought it back to the old format, I guarantee it would kick off again," Carson stated. "When they decided to change it, they killed it. If the engine is still running, why switch it off? It was one of the best things that's happened on television."

Possible Future Reboot
Last week, it was revealed that A Question of Sport had been shelved, but there are rumors of a potential future reboot. This decision was made to avoid the embarrassment of a U-turn. However, with Carson's passionate plea to return to the show's roots, fans are hopeful that the BBC will reconsider.
Carson's sentiments echo those of many loyal viewers who miss the show's original charm and format. Only time will tell if the BBC will take this into account and bring back the beloved program in its original glory.
