The Perfect Idea for VAR
Sir Alex Ferguson, the former Manchester United manager, had already come up with the perfect solution for VAR back in 2005. At the time, he was asked about the possibility of introducing goalline technology after Pedro Mendes' infamous ghost goal for Tottenham at Old Trafford.
Ahead of His Time
Ferguson was way ahead of his time in coming up with the ideal VAR system. He believed that big decisions should be reviewed, but the key for him was the time it would take for VAR decisions to be made. He suggested a time limit of 30 seconds.
30 Seconds is Key
In an interview, Ferguson explained his reasoning, saying, "If you can't make a decision in 30 seconds, the game carries on. 30 seconds in a lot of cases is the amount of time you take for a goal kick, or a corner, so it wouldn't kill the game in terms of wasting time."
Impressed Fans
Fans were impressed with Ferguson's foresight and praised his idea of a VAR time limit. One fan called him the "GOAT" and another said that a time limit to VAR would solve a lot of problems, either by exposing the quality of officials or limiting VAR overreach.
