Scary Moment at Schalke Match as Hooligans Cause Chaos

Unrest in the Stands

Schalke's 2. Bundesliga clash with Hansa Rostock was temporarily halted due to fan unrest in the stands. Traditionally a big top-flight club, Schalke now find themselves languishing in the second-tier.

Fans Kick Through Glass Divider

Chaos erupted during the first half of the match as Schalke fans housed in a small away section kicked down the glass wall separating them from home supporters. The balaclava-clad supporters then let off fireworks, with riot police getting involved.

Match Suspended for 30 Minutes

The interruption caused the match to be suspended for 30 minutes during the first half. Referee Nicolas Winter sent both teams back to their dressing rooms while chaos ensued.

Schalke Comes Out on Top

After the madness subsided, Rostock found themselves down to ten men. Schalke eventually took the lead on 72 minutes and secured the win with another goal four minutes from time. The victory saw Schalke move up to 13th place in the 2. Bundesliga table, easing their relegation fears.

Manager Condemns Fan Unrest

Schalke boss Karel Geraerts spoke out against the fan unrest, saying, "I don't want to see that in a stadium. That wasn't good for the teams, not good for football."
