Belgian Striker Could Leave Chelsea for a Bargain Price
Romelu Lukaku, who rejoined Chelsea for almost £100m in 2021, could be on his way out of the club for a significantly lower fee. Lukaku, currently on loan at Roma, has impressed with nine goals in 14 appearances for the Serie A outfit.
Chelsea's "Gentleman's Agreement"
Chelsea reportedly has an unofficial release clause for Lukaku, allowing him to leave for just £35m. This agreement, described as a "gentleman's agreement" by Fabrizio Romano, is not a traditional release clause but a mutually agreed understanding between Lukaku's agents and the club.
Opportunity for Other Clubs
The agreement is not exclusive to Roma and is available to all clubs. It opens the possibility for Lukaku to move to a different club at the end of the season, despite his success at Roma.
Financial Benefits for Chelsea
A permanent exit for Lukaku from Stamford Bridge would provide financial relief for Chelsea, who have spent over £1 billion on transfers since May 2022. Offloading Lukaku at a reduced fee would help the club balance their books.
