Pep Guardiola issues warning to Manchester City fans ahead of Manchester derby and Sir Bobby Charlton tributes

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has sent a clear message to the club's fans, stating that any disrespectful behavior towards Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton will not be tolerated. City recently banned two supporters, both minors, who were caught on camera mocking Charlton's death. Guardiola emphasized the need to show respect for iconic figures like Charlton and warned that any misbehavior during the upcoming derby match will result in bans and police reports.

Guardiola: "They do not represent us"

Speaking about the incident, Guardiola stated, "They don't represent us. Alcohol makes bad things in people. We have a lot of respect for United, especially the iconic figures like Sir Bobby Charlton. We will be part of the condolences for the family, Manchester United, and English football."

Focus on paying tribute

While addressing the disrespectful behavior, Guardiola also highlighted the loss felt by City ambassador and legend Mike Summerbee, who played alongside Charlton for England. Guardiola praised Summerbee's gesture of signing the book of condolences on behalf of Manchester City at Old Trafford. The manager himself paid tribute to Charlton, expressing gratitude for making football "the best place to live" and stating that the legend will never be forgotten.

Tributes expected to be appropriate

Looking ahead to the Manchester derby, Guardiola expressed confidence that the tributes for Sir Bobby Charlton will be carried out respectfully. He emphasized the good rivalry between the two clubs and the mutual respect they have for each other. Guardiola pointed out that in his eight seasons at Manchester City, there have been no major issues and that both clubs have shown maturity in their previous encounters.
