Oscar Pistorius Could Face Revenge Attacks from Underworld Gangsters After Parole Release

Revenge Attacks Looming

Former Olympian Oscar Pistorius may be targeted by underworld gangsters seeking revenge after his release from prison in January. Despite his plans to become a preacher, Johannesburg police have received information that the city's criminal underworld is out for vengeance over the murder of Reeva Steenkamp.

Concerns for Pistorius' Safety

Pistorius, who hopes to become a preacher, faces the threat of revenge attacks from gangsters upon his release from prison. Authorities in Johannesburg are taking the matter seriously and are working hard to ensure Pistorius' safety, stating that South Africa cannot afford any more violence connected to him.

Paranoia and Fear

Pistorius has lived in fear for his life since he shot his then girlfriend through a bathroom door in 2013. While out on bail, he was reportedly paranoid about paid assassins and took extreme precautions to protect himself. Even in prison, he had concerns about his food being poisoned due to gangster orders.

Revenge Threats During Trial

The threat of revenge first emerged during Pistorius' original trial, where two men linked to South Africa's criminal underworld were seen in the public gallery. Marc Batchelor and Mikey Schultz were both known to Pistorius and were seen glaring at him during the court proceedings. Batchelor, a friend of Reeva's, was threatened by Pistorius and had underworld connections, while Schultz is a convicted killer for his role in a contracted murder.

Extortion Attempts and Death Threats

In 2016, South African police investigated messages sent to Pistorius' cousin via WhatsApp, which included threats of violence against Pistorius in jail. The Pistorius family has also received death threats, prompting them to increase security at their homes.

From 'Tough Guy' to Preacher

Pistorius, who will never be allowed to touch a firearm again, is determined to make a new life dedicated to God and helping others. During his time in prison, he became a spiritual guide for fellow inmates and encouraged them to embrace religion.

Release Date Set

Pistorius is set to be released from his South African prison in January after serving over half of his sentence. The court described him as a "first-time offender with a positive support system," leading to the decision to grant him parole. Pistorius shot and killed Reeva Steenkamp in 2013, claiming he mistook her for an intruder.
