Mikel Arteta's VAR Rant Was "Unnecessary" and Would Not Have Happened in My Day, Says Ex-Arsenal Chief

Mikel Artetas VAR Rant Was Unnecessary and Would Not Have Happened in My Day, Says Ex-Arsenal Chief

Ex-Gunners Vice-Chairman David Dein Criticizes Arteta's Comments and Behavior

Mikel Arteta's recent rant against VAR has been deemed "unnecessary" and potentially damaging to Arsenal's image by former Arsenal vice-chairman, David Dein.

Dein, who oversaw five title triumphs during his time at Arsenal, believes that Arteta's strong criticism of the officials after Arsenal's loss to Newcastle was a distraction from a poor performance.

When asked how he would have handled the situation, Dein stated, "It would not have happened. It did not do the image of the club any good. But it's an emotional game."

Dein also pointed out that Arsenal had only one shot at goal during the match, suggesting they did not deserve to win.

Arteta's Controversial Comments Following the Match

Arteta faced heavy criticism for his comments following Arsenal's 1-0 defeat at St James' Park. He described the decisions made by the officials as "embarrassing" and "a disgrace."

The Premier League's Key Match Incident Panel supported the decision to allow Anthony Gordon's goal to stand but also acknowledged that both Kai Havertz and Bruno Guimaraes should have received red cards.

Despite the panel's ruling, Dein believes that Arteta's outburst was unnecessary and did not reflect well on the club.
