Mauricio Pochettino Slammed for Worst Chelsea Lineup Ever as Fans React

Chelsea fans are expressing their frustration with manager Mauricio Pochettino over his team selection for the match against Sheffield United.

Controversial Choices

Pochettino made the surprising decision to drop Enzo Fernandez from the starting lineup and opted for four natural centre-backs in the team.

In midfield, Conor Gallagher and Moises Caicedo were chosen as the pivot, with Cole Palmer playing in an attacking front four.

Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling were selected on the wings to support striker Nicolas Jackson.

Additionally, Djorde Petrovic made his debut in goal, replacing the injured Robert Sanchez.

Fans React

Chelsea supporters took to social media to express their disappointment with the lineup. Many argued that Fernandez's passing range could have been effective against Chris Wilder's team.

One fan on Twitter said, "We're playing at home against a low block. A game that is perfectly poised for Enzo Fernández with his passing range. Instead, we're playing Caicedo and Gallagher in the pivot with 4 CBs. POCH, I can't defend this."

Another fan described it as "the worst lineup I have ever witnessed," while a third simply exclaimed, "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?"

Some fans predicted a 2-0 victory for Sheffield United, criticizing Pochettino's decision to start four centre-backs and leave out Fernández.

Optimism and History

However, there is room for optimism as Christopher Nkunku, the blockbuster summer signing, was named on the bench.

It's worth noting that Chelsea have not lost against Sheffield United at home since 1992, and the Blades haven't kept a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge since 1922.

Notably, the last time Sheffield United defeated Chelsea was under the management of Chris Wilder, with a 3-0 victory at Bramall Lane.
