Mason Greenwood Wanted in Shock £40m Barcelona Transfer as Man Utd Striker is Offered Lionel Messis Iconic No10 Shirt

Barcelona Sets Sights on Greenwood

Barcelona is reportedly preparing a £40 million bid to bring Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood to the club. As part of the deal, the Spanish giants are ready to offer Greenwood Lionel Messi's iconic No10 shirt, a number that has been vacant since Ansu Fati's loan move to Brighton.

Impressive Stint at Getafe

Greenwood, 22, has been making waves during his loan spell at LaLiga club Getafe. With five goals and four assists, he has played a significant role in helping the team climb to eighth place in the table. Getafe is keen on signing him permanently, but Barcelona is determined to secure his services.

A Fresh Start for Greenwood

After a turbulent period at Manchester United, Greenwood made the decision to move away from the club. In February, he was cleared of charges relating to attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. United initially planned to welcome him back, but public backlash led to a change in plans. Greenwood left for Getafe, where he has been able to revive his career.

The lure of the No10 Shirt

Barcelona sees Greenwood as the perfect candidate to don Lionel Messi's prestigious No10 jersey. The Argentine superstar left the club in August 2021, and his number was subsequently given to Ansu Fati. However, with Fati currently on loan, the No10 shirt is available, and Barcelona hopes that this enticing offer will convince Greenwood to make the move.

A Potential Return to United?

Despite the interest from Barcelona, Greenwood still holds hope of returning to Manchester United in the future. However, given the circumstances surrounding his departure from the club, a reunion seems unlikely at this stage. Only time will tell where Greenwood's career will take him next.
