Manchester United Failed to Sign Harry Kane Due to High Price Tag, Similar to Cristiano Ronaldo

United's Long Pursuit of Kane

Manchester United's pursuit of Harry Kane, which spanned almost 10 years, ultimately failed last summer due to the high financial demands associated with the deal. The striker had set the world alight at Tottenham, becoming the club's record goalscorer as well as England's.

United's Attempt to Sign Kane

According to The Mail, Manchester United made a move for Kane when he had only one year left on his contract with Spurs and had made it clear that he would not be extending his stay. The club saw this as an opportunity to finally secure their star man.

Tottenham's Resistance to Selling

However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, known for his tough negotiating tactics, was not keen on letting Kane join a Premier League rival, despite the player's desire to move to United. This created a significant hurdle for the Red Devils.

The High Price Tag

To secure a deal with Levy, Manchester United would have had to pay a staggering amount for Kane, similar to the fees associated with Cristiano Ronaldo's second stint at the club. Additionally, the forward's wages would have been a significant financial burden for the Manchester giants.

The Ronaldo Comparison

Kane's salary at Bayern Munich is reported to be around £500,000 per week, including signing-on fee and bonuses. This would have put United in a similar situation to when they re-signed Ronaldo in 2021 - dealing with an expensive contract for a player in his thirties with limited resale value.

United's Decision to Back Off

Due to the financial implications and the potential risks involved, Manchester United decided to back off from the Kane deal. The striker ultimately moved to Bayern Munich in a £104 million deal with Tottenham.

Kane's Success at Bayern

Since joining Bayern, Kane has already made a significant impact, scoring 22 goals and providing seven assists in just 19 appearances for the German champions.
