Man Utd Keeper Andre Onana Set to Join Cameroon Squad for AFCON

Man Utd Keeper Andre Onana Set to Join Cameroon Squad for AFCON

Onana's Availability for Man Utd Games Hangs in the Balance

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is expected to link up with the Cameroon squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) later this month. However, the Red Devils are keen on keeping him for as long as possible to avoid him missing any games.

Extended Stay at Old Trafford

According to reports from the Mail, United manager Erik ten Hag wants to retain Onana's services for an additional week so that he can participate in the crucial match against Tottenham on January 14. This would give the goalkeeper less than 24 hours to catch a flight to Ivory Coast for Cameroon's opening AFCON match against Guinea.

Potential Return for FA Cup Fourth Round

If Cameroon is eliminated from the tournament before their final group game against Gambia on January 23, Onana could potentially make it back to Manchester in time for the FA Cup fourth round, assuming United defeats Wigan. This would mean he would not have missed any games for his club.

Possible Absence for Up to Four Games

However, if Cameroon progresses to the final of AFCON, Onana could miss up to four games for Manchester United. The 27-year-old has been a crucial figure for the team, featuring in every match this season.
