Liverpool Star's Dad Rescued From Kidnappers: Hostage Negotiator Warns of Danger

Liverpool Stars Dad Rescued From Kidnappers: Hostage Negotiator Warns of Danger

Deal to Save Luis Diaz's Dad Expected Soon

A deal to save Luis Diaz's dad, who was kidnapped by the notorious Colombian guerrilla group ELN, could be reached within hours, according to reports. However, a hostage negotiator has warned that the most dangerous part of the operation will be rescuing him from the kidnappers.

Rescue Operation Could Be Complicated

Hostage negotiator Scott Walker, who has experience working in South America, believes that the release of a hostage is the most complicated part of the process. He explained that while an agreement may be reached soon, the recovery and release of Mr. Diaz can be extremely dangerous as people relax and drop their guard.

Political Motives Behind the Kidnapping

Walker also highlighted that infamous groups like ELN and Farc often have political motives behind their kidnappings. He suggested that the guerrilla group may be trying to put pressure on the peace talks between the Colombian government and ELN, or even sabotage them.

Massive Police Operation Underway

Colombian authorities have launched a massive police operation to locate Luis Diaz's missing dad, who was kidnapped at a gas station in Barrancas, La Guajira. Sniffer dogs and an elite police anti-drugs commando squad have been brought in to assist in the rescue efforts.

Possibility of Cross-Border Kidnapping

There is a possibility that Luis Diaz's dad has been taken across the border to Venezuela, which could make his release even more complicated. Borders in that part of the world are porous, according to Walker, and it wouldn't be the first time a hostage has been taken to Venezuela.

Hostage Being Treated Well

Walker expressed confidence that Luis Diaz's dad is being reasonably looked after by the kidnappers, as it is in their interest to do so. He explained that threats are a commonplace tactic in kidnappings, but he believes the hostage takers want to maintain their bargaining power.

Peace Talks and Ceasefire

The Colombian government has been engaged in peace talks with ELN, and a six-month ceasefire is currently in place. The negotiations will also involve the release of Diaz's father as part of the process.
